All good Sales Managers and Business Owners understand the power of thought in the mind.
It is a well known psychological fact that you will never outperform what you see yourself making.
The challenge with struggling businesses is often not in teaching new skills, it is getting them to see themselves making more money and more sales.
You can learn the best skills in the world, but if you still see yourself making just enough to cover the bills and barely pull a decent salary or wage for yourself then that is all you will make.
You know the story, you hit it hard and create a heap of business and then the next month you are too busy working on what you created that you no longer get out there. You end up on the frustrating rollercoaster of "good month - bad month".
Motivation doesn't work. In fact, it can make it worse. Why?
The short term injection of motivation gets you rolling again but you ultimately lose power as you become more and more dependant on the motivation to pull you through.
So how do you condition yourself to constantly increase your own self image? How do we get you to see yourself making a big profit, with ample free time and ultimately bring the company a flood of consistent sales?
You work with daily disciplines to instill proven principles and practices into your habitual nature.
The key is to start small. Maybe even start with a discipline in your private life like exercising daily or eating better. Cut out caffeine. Stop watching TV for no reason. Read a book every day for 30 minutes or more. It is these disciplines that build the habit muscle. This discipline leads to certainty and confidence. You belief grows.
You may be thinking, "Scott, you've lost the plot. How can food habits affect the profit of my business?"
Fair question. Well directly they don't as we both know. But indirectly they absolutely do. Let me ask you a simple question to prove it.
Would you trust a person to run your company who doesn't even have the basic discipline to be punctual to appointments?
Would you trust someone to run your company who doesn't read something every day on the subject of improving themselves or learning about improving the sales and marketing of your business?
You see, when you make a commitment to something you are expected to follow through. The discipline exists after the excitement of the moment has passed. There comes a point where you have to do the work. You can be all excited about getting fit and healthy until you have to push out that 50 th push up. Why?
Because it hurts. But that is where the progress of your growth as a person lies.
In business, you must develop the disciplines that lead to the natural growth of seeing yourself as a highly profitable entrepreneur and business owner.
You must stay away from negative people and comments that pull you down. You must surround yourself with people who are achieving more than you. You will be uncomfortable in the beginning but pretty soon that 50 th push up doesn't hurt anymore. It begins to feel good. The growth feels more natural. You are stimulated and enjoy your time there. Well, this is true with every area of your life.
Go through those pain barriers.
Fact - the best companies always have a strong emphasis on training and developing their people. They view training as an investment, not an expense. You must view the same with yourself individually and with your staff.
If you think it's expensive training people and then they leave your organization, try NOT training them and having them stay. It could kill your business.
The key to making the training effective is how simply it can be adsorbed and how fun it is to learn. The more relevant the training is to their lives, the better the result will be.
So start seeing yourself as a highly profitable business owner. Know the things that make a difference. Study the Universal Laws and look deeply at how they apply to you.
Find a mentor or a coach who will be honest about your shortcomings. Be open to receiving feedback and making the changes that are necessary. Never fear the change or your ultimately fears will come true. And that is, that what you've got now in your life is as good as it gets. Because if you don't see yourself better than your results indicate now, then your results are not going to change.
I realize you have heard some of this before but you need to deeply internalize this if you wish things to change for you. You need to get comfortable with higher thoughts, bolder actions and better results to permanently transform your business and your life.
The problems you face in your business are a good measuring stick. I am about to say something that potentially will rub you the wrong way but.
It's not the size of your problems that's the issue, it's the size of you. If you manufacture a bigger you, then your current problems will seem small.
See yourself using visualization as the ideal type of business owner you want to be. If you need help then scan a recent bank statement and on your computer type in the bank balance you want it to have. Print it out. Put it on your office wall and look at it everyday. Now, when you look at it, be sure it is not some dreamy "I wish" kinda look. Look at it and let your body and mind be comfortable with the idea.
Learn your numbers. All good business owners know the key numbers in their business. You should know yours. This allows you to forecast and break down large goals into bite size chunks. Your monthly sales targets suddenly get treated seriously no matter how far off they may seem. You systematically can work backwards down to daily activity to know you will achieve your goal. This certainty strengthens your self-image. Know your numbers and what the simple awareness take you to a new level.
Find a mentor. Seek out someone who has achieved what you want to achieve and ask their help. Lose the ego and become an "Ego-less Learner". Pride has kept many people poor. Don't let this be you. A mentor can shortcut your success like a quantum leap. They've been there and done it. The experience is priceless even though it may carry a price. Pay it and take the shortcut.
Look outside your industry for marketing strategies, joint venture opportunities and sales conversion tactics and idea. Industries themselves can stagnate by looking at what the competitor is doing. What if you're all operating at only 20% of your potential. Opportunities are best found from outside. You're not re-inventing any wheels in the marketing world but for your industry you may appear to be. Yet these can often be proven systems that you can easily apply to go to a whole new level.
Finally, once a month you need to go do something that makes you feel rich! It might be a massage at a luxurious resort. It could be something as simple as a movie where they have reclining seats and waiters serve you cocktails. Maybe you attend a concert or have a weekend away somewhere.
Whatever it is it's important you get comfortable around wealth. It doesn't have to cost you a lot of money either.
Hire a Ferrari for an hour or two.
Play golf at the best course in your area.
The best part is when you start doing these things you will unconsciously come across other highly successful people. The butterfly effect has begun. Your life moves off onto a different tangent. And it's important to know that YOU started it. YOU created the change and YOU made it happen.
Success is defined differently for everybody. Whatever it is for you I know you have it in you to achieve it. Life doesn't play tricks on you. If you have the genuine desire for something it means you have the potential within you to fulfill those desires. You do not need to convince yourself of this fact. All you need to do now is follow my 6 words for a great life and..
Think BIG! Act BOLD! Have FUN!
